Proven Irish Setter performance... now lighter than ever!
If you’re looking for a traditional hunting boot with an astounding amount of versatility in normal conditions, a new pair of Irish Setter 2870 Vaprtrek’s would make a great addition to your boot collection.
With the 2870 Vaprtrek’s there are no gimmicks or fancy features that are going to stand out all that much — but that’s the point. These boots do everything well, and are the perfect pair to keep in your closet alongside your muck boots.
The 2870 Vaprtrek’s are built to be lightweight, comfortable, and waterproof enough to keep your feet dry when encountering the occasional puddle or shallow stream, with an athletic shoe feel that will have you forgetting that you’re wearing actual hunting boots.
The outer portion of the boots are made with a synthetic leather, providing the durability needed for traversing tough terrain with little issue. The understated camo aesthetic offers nice touch as well, and the outer material is also scent-free.
The tread of the 2870 Vaprtrek’s has been meticulously designed. The lugs on the sides offer a nice bite with each step, while the heel strike design ensures fluid steps with balance on each side. The arch of the sole includes a special tread design made specifically for tree stands.
On the inside, the boots have a moisture-wicking insulated liner that helps to keep your feet dry and breathable, even with multiple pairs of socks. The upper is full-grain leather, and fully waterproof.
The first thing you notice when putting these on is the weight, or lack thereof. Each boot weighs just 19 ounces, and seriously feels like an athletic shoe of some sort. You have all the flex, cushioning, and nimble feel you get with a tennis shoe, merged with the ruggedness of a hunting boot. It’s quite a feat.
Irish Setter bills these as waterproof hunting boots, but that’s obviously not entirely true. They are certainly made with waterproof materials. But if you think you can just go stand in a stream for a full minute and not suffer any consequences, you’re wrong.
With that said, they do a good job of keeping water out if you encounter some by chance, whether it’s a splash here and there, dew, snowy grass, etc.
If you plan on using these boots in frigid weather, consider ordering a full size up so you can layer your socks properly without cutting off your circulation.
When used in the proper settings, the Irish Setter 2870 Vaprtrek’s are very capable hunting boots that provide a massive amount of comfort and traction, while ensuring your feet are dry and ventilated. The tread design is a major advantage as well, and the price point is exactly where it should be. These boots are among the best on the market, period.
